Getting Settled — First Month at My Art Studio
In April, I began my journey as an artist at The Open Arts Center. My little 6’x6’ studio is the perfect space to focus on creativity and be apart of the art community. It feels really energizing being around other artists and witnessing their creative practice.
It’s easy to be hard on yourself the first month of a new opportunity and adventure, but I’m excited that I’ve been able to stick to what I planned to create the first month of April, even though it doesn’t feel like much. I’ve created 4 pieces I’m proud of and experimented with a few more — these didn’t end up being finished — but I feel that I’m learning more about the medium I’m using and experimenting (and showing up even when I’m tired) which I think is really important in the beginning stages of finding my style. I had about two weeks of on and off motivation and little studio time because of a health issue, so I plan on spending the last week or so of April catching up, exploring watercolor and gouache, and getting organized again.
I feel like my creativity is starting to blossom and as I put pencil and paint to paper, I feel more ideas coming to me.
My goal this month and next is to get some art prepared for The Open Arts Center’s grand opening first Friday so I can showcase some of my work.
